Poisson d'Avril Contest

If it's not fun, why do it?

FROM THE OFFICES OF Hungadunga, Hungadunga, Hungadunga, Hungadunga, and McCormick, special counsel to the Poisson d'Avril Contest Committee:

Two important rule changes will be in effect for the 2011 Pd'A.

1. Log Submission Deadline

As many have noted, the 2011 Russian DX Contest required that entrants expecting to place in the top 3 in their category must submit their logs within 48 hours of the end of the contest. The Pd'A Contest Committee applauds this move, and not to be outdone, will institute a similar rule this year. ALL LOGS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 48 HOURS BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE CONTEST. NO EXCEPTIONS (except as noted in the second important rule change below).

2. Process for Selecting Winner in 2011

Since the beginning, the Poisson d'Avril contest has been won every year by the same entrant, K1DG. This year, K1DG is too busy to prepare his station and psyche for the grueling trial of the Pd'A. Therefore, he will not be entering this year.

Thus it will finally be possible for another entrant to win the coveted Poisson d'Avril Trophy. But contests (especially this one) are not won simply on the basis of score.

This year's winner will be determined the old-fashioned way...by using cash to influence the Committee. No, really! We're not kidding.

Entrants will have the opportunity to bid on the First-Place trophy. Beginning on 1 April 2011, bids will be accepted by email and updated daily on this site. Email bidding will close on Friday, May 20 at noon EDT (1600 UTC). Bids will still be accepted in person at the Dayton Hamvention until noon on Saturday, May 21.

The winner will be announced at the Dayton Hamvention(R) Contesting Forum at 2:00 PM EDT.

The winning bid will be considered a contribution to WRTC2014, and may be paid via the Northern California DX Foundation, fundraising partner for WRTC2014.

In fact, if you don't want to bid, your donation for WRTC2014 is still welcome. See www.wrtc2014.org for details.
